WordPress Theme Review Team Votes to Allow Themes to Use the REST API Plugin

During this week’s WordPress Theme Review Team meeting, members considered the possibility of allowing themes hosted in the directory to make use of the WP REST API plugin. Since the API is not yet included in core, any theme or plugin author who wants to use it must have the feature plugin installed.

Here’s How We Saved State-Level Open Legal Data

An open data armageddon is upon us for state legal data, in the form of the Uniform Electronic Legal Materials Act (UELMA, pronounced “you-EL-mah”). The model legislation is being adopted by states throughout the nation, requiring them to make published legal data verifiable, so that people know that it is official, authoritative, and unchanged.

Michael DeWitt: Developing WP Themes with Using Modular Sass

CSS preprocessors make developing clean and semantic stylesheets effortless. My talk takes someone through a basic structure for organizing Sass within a WordPress theme, using the Bones theme framework as an example. I go through some of the benefits and cool tricks you can implement with this structure including breakpoint includes, variables, functions, nesting, and…

Authors Rating Their Own Plugins: A WordPress.org Epidemic – Pro Plugin Directory

Every now and then I see an interesting new WordPress plugin on WordPress.org. Naturally, as I do with many products, I check the reviews. I want to know how its users like it before deciding to try it. More than once (many times, actually), I see a review from the plugin author themselves.

#33161 (Create a standard for defining and identifying site environment) – WordPress Trac

It’d be great to more easily define site config constants (like database details) based on what environment is. I don’t know the way around that, and that’s my biggest question as to whether a constant would be the right route, or if there is a more low lying issue that would need fixing to make this the most valuable.

New WordPress Plugin Automates Slack Team Invitations

Generating Slack team invitations can become rather tedious when you’re managing a large group of people – particularly when the team is open to almost anyone. In the case of a company or organization, a Slack admin can use the feature that permits anyone with an email from a specified domain to be accepted on signup.

Impostor Syndrome, The WordPress Community, and Me

I have been on a journey of change and growth for the last few years, both personally and professionally. I went back to school to pursue another degree while working full-time. It wasn’t easy, but I pulled off a 4.0 GPA over 43 credits in 21 months, all while staying very busy at work and not letting my home life miss a beat.

Another spectacular Prestige Conference is coming up this weekend, August 1st-2nd, 2015, and we CANNOT WAIT to get ourselves to Minneapolis! Like PressNomics, Prestige is a tech conference that focuses on business and career development, rather than tech itself; most of the presentations are focused on discussing how to run a business in the tech industry, rather than on improving technical skills.

This couple’s engagement photo fail will crack you up

Here’s one crappy proposal. This couple probably didn’t realize the unfortunate result of combining their initials when they posed for a picture after they got engaged at a Hibachi-style restaurant. The photo then made its way to Reddit, courtesy of user FunkSiren, under the title, “I don’t think they thought out this engagement photo.”
