If we spent our first five years pioneering and staking our claim in the world, in our sixth year we cultivated the organization and culture we pioneered. We rallied around trends and shifts in our industry and redoubled our investment into telling our story. The initiative to better express our story culminated in a refresh […]
We’re proud to introduce the WordPress Component Library: a collection of front-end components constructed with WordPress and accessibility at the forefront. Many of the HTML and CSS components we build for our clients are structurally similar, particularly for prolific features like menus, search forms, posts, and blogrolls.
Join me, our Director of Platform Experience Helen Hou-Sandí, our Director of Project Management Grant Landram, and many other 10uppers at the second annual WordCamp US, being held once again in Philadelphia. On Friday night, 10up is co-sponsoring WP Engine’s Bru Craft & Wurst afterparty at the indoor bierhall and wursthaus.
Back in September, team 10up gathered in Atlanta from around the globe for four days of knowledge sharing, team building, and face-to-face time. Our days were filled with inspiring, educational presentations from our peers, while the evenings let us kick back and relax with teammates whom we normally only see on our computer screen.
As web technologies and mobile devices improve and global internet speeds increase, consumers increasingly expect taps and clicks to deliver results nearly instantaneously; the “app-like” experience has become an expectation in web browsers. To this end, we’ve seen huge strides forward in web platforms and frameworks.
SmarterTravel, a TripAdvisor company, engaged 10up in relaunching their namesake site SmarterTravel.com, which provides travel advice, news and travel deals. The website had not been revisited since they first launched in 1998, with the exception of a small “touch up” in 2010, and was showing its age: a suboptimal layout, a rigid non-responsive grid, and […]
We’re proud to announce that 10up has partnered with Joyent to bring WordPress to their Docker infrastructure. Joyent, an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IAAS) company providing software to power their-and their clients’-cloud platforms, knows the difficulties in prepackaging software installations that can be readily moved across server environments.
John Eckman on The 20th Annual Webby Awards, the web’s canonical awards program recognizing the best of the internet, presented their nominees last week. Nominees qualify for two awards: The Webby Award selected by a professional judging body, as well as The Webby People’s Voice Award, selected by an open vote that runs through April 21.
John Eckman on WordPress is strongly represented among the 2016 Annual Webby Awards, powering 1 of every 7 nominees in the Website categories. Nominees span 32 of the 48 categories, recognizing websites marketing major financial institutions and web apps, superstar artists and musicians, government projects, and major media and news outlets.
WordPress 4.5 was released yesterday, featuring improvements to content editing, responsive previews, and a handful of under the hood performance and developer
Jake Goldman on We now spend more time on mobile gadgets than on desktop devices. The mobile web experience is more important than ever, and overwhelmingly defined by content relevancy, timeliness, and above all, speediness. Mindful web developers-given adequate budget allowances-strive to build mobile-first sites that provide lean, engaging experiences across different screen sizes and devices.
Josh Levinson on The web publishing experience is at the heart of 10up’s mission. So needless to say, when Observer (a long-time client) offered the opportunity to reimagine their editorial process, merging content management across their digital property and hallmark print publication, New York Observer, they couldn’t hold us back.
Doug Stewart on In 2006, the first WordCamp was held in San Francisco-followed by subsequent camps in cities around the country. This weekend, the first WordCamp US will take place: an expansion of the traditional San Francisco conference, now attracting the WordPress community on an even larger scale.
We love when our clients are successful, and StoryCorps and their amazing Thanksgiving Listen campaign being featured on Google’s homepage certainly quali
Helen Hou-Sandi on * It’s easy to take open-source software for granted, and to forget that the Internet we use every day depends in part on the freely donated work of thousands of programmers. If open-source software is at the heart of the Internet, then we might need to examine it from time to time to make sure it’s not bleeding.
As a pioneer in cloud-based video delivery and monetization, Brightcove helps media companies tell their stories by revolutionizing the way video content is experienced on every Internet connected device. After a previous effort to build a standardized WordPress integration delivered an ineffective user experience, a refresh of Brightcove’s API was the perfect opportunity to build a new plugin.
Drew Jaynes on WordCamp Europe is this weekend, and four 10uppers have made the trek to Seville, Spain to mingle and share insights. I will be presenting on Friday on the experience of setting up WordPress for new users, raising questions about how WordPress can continue to drive adoption by catering to that audience.
Christine Garrison on 10up is widely known for the complex and unique web experiences we produce. We consistently create unparalleled experiences for our clients and while engineering and design is a large part of that, senior project and account management talent are critical to the success of 10up and its clients.
Taylor Dewey on There is evidence to indicate that sliders (or rotators or carousels) are generally ineffective. Engagement with the second slide is precipitously low and engagement with the third slide is near negligible. Assuming visitors see it at all.
Jake Goldman on Four years ago, 10up came to life with a couple of clients, and a centrally located team of one. Today, our 100+ team of engineers, designers, and strategists span the globe, privileged to serve Fortune 500 (and 50… and 1 …)
We’re always looking for talented strategists, project managers, engineers, designers, systems administrators, and advertising specialists. If you thrive on remote work and a flexible schedule, embrace customer service, and want to work with big name clients and an amazing team, get in touch.
David Peralty on When WP Engine came to us to help engineer Gif the Halls – part digital holiday greeting, part holiday art exhibition – we were more than a little intrigued. The WP Engine Labs team commissioned six digital artists to create holiday themed animations, to be projected onto buildings in San Francisco – and they needed a way to collect holiday messages from the masses.
Taylor Lovett on At 10up, we build custom publishing experiences. We take great pride in all aspects of building websites, from user interaction design to code performance. Security, style, workflow, design patterns, performance, and even tools all influence that publishing experience.
The 10up Engineering Best Practices are not geared to teach anyone to become an engineer. Rather, they aim to illustrate how to engineer the 10up way. Therefore, these best practices are intended for capable engineers. As a company, we strive to provide websites and components that yield a top-notch user experience.
Taylor Lovett on We are proud to announce the release of a new plugin, ElasticPress, to the WordPress community. The project started as an internal initiative to meet a particularly common yet difficult client request: improved WordPress search. ElasticPress integrates WordPress search with Elasticsearch which has become increasingly prominent powering search on major enterprise websites such as Github and WordPress.com.
This weekend marks the second annual WordCamp Europe, being held in Sofia, Bulgaria. I am very excited to be presenting on enhancing WordPress development by

On August 16th, Birmingham will have the chance to hear from 4 10uppers as we pay a visit to the Magic City. WordCamp Birmingham is the South’s oldest WordCamp, starting back in 2008. We say WPY’all loud and proud and look forward to sharing with this community.
Maine’s largest media company, MaineToday Media, came to 10up with a bold vision and a tight timeline. The plan? To launch a redesigned flagship news site and create a new regional site. The new responsive platform would be built on WordPress and would combine content from the print publications with additional digital assets (galleries, videos) and high-impact interactive pieces developed specifically for the web.
When John Bloch and I (Eric Mann) started working with TechCrunch last year on their site redesign, one of the main goals was to improve site performance. Among the various tools we built to help meet that metric was a library called WP Async Task: an abstract library meant to give structure to asynchronous background tasks.
WordCamp NYC 2014 is this weekend and we’re excited to take part as speakers, attendees, and sponsor. WordCamp NYC is always a great time, and this one is no different, with four full tracks across two days at the Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge. On Saturday, Adam Silverstein will be presenting Put a little Backbone in your WordPress!
10up will be brewing up a storm in the Windy City this upcoming weekend at WordCamp Chicago, with wall to wall speakers supported by a John Hancock Sponsorship under the PushUp Notifications product brand. Our rundown of speakers starts with Dustin Filippini presenting a Comprehensive Dashboard Walkthrough on Foundation Friday.
At 10up, we think that a truly outstanding web publishing experience happens at the intersection of great design, strategy, and engineering. We also know that the modern web requires talent that understands that great design is not just how a website looks, but how it feels across input interfaces and screen sizes.
I’m really excited to debut my first WordCamp keynote this coming weekend at the illustrious WordCamp Philly! I’m presenting a remix of a my WordCamp Connec
10up has the east coast covered top-to-bottom this weekend at both WordCamp Connecticut and WordCamp Miami. In the north Jake Goldman will teach you the to leverage WordPress’s native media player, based on MediaElement.js, Taylor Lovett will show you how to save time with WP-CLI, and Helen Hou-Sandi will make the business case for contributing to WordPress core full-time.
We imagine, create, and grow amazing web experiences with WordPress.
