On Friday, the Supreme Court offered its long-awaited verdict on same-sex marriage, deciding the 14th Amendment requires states recognize same-sex marriage and a same-sex marriage performed in another state in a 5-4 decision. “In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were,” Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the opinion of the court.
