Canada’s government is considering new tax rules to level the playing field for e-commerce vendors that complain foreign giants such as Amazon.com Inc., Apple Inc. and Netflix Inc. have an unfair edge when selling digital products.
Fun fact: In 2011, the only women from Canadian history ever to make it onto the country’s banknotes were replaced by an icebreaker. The Famous Five, who were involved in having women recognized as persons under the Constitution of 1867 (along with Thérèse Casgrain, Canada’s first female political party leader), were run over by the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Amundsen.
Last week, GitHub became the latest tech company to face scrutiny over allegations of epic leadership failure and a sexist internal culture as described by designer/developer Julie Ann Horvath in a series of tweets. As with many stories about sexism in tech, the industry seems focused on disproving it.
